Can’t catch a break

April 16th, 2007

Well, today is warmer but the winds are terrible. This spring season is crazy. The the cold weather we’ve had, all the spring flowers are dead, and those that actually made it throught the cold are now dead or knocked over with te hard rain we’ve had. We can’t catch a break. I was walking over to Chapel at 9:50 (I had to go by way of long walk around lake since the other way is closed from construction). OK, as I was walking, the wind about knocked me off me feet and down the hill. There were white caps on the lake! Today in Chapel they announced the Faculty & Staff of the Year. It was very nice. No … it was not me.

8:30 Parents Night program

Graduation is a sad day for me and many faculty & staff, I’m sure. We invest time into these students, get to be friends w/ them (some more than others) and then they leave … how cruel. The Lord is good though, He keeps many of them in our lives as years go on.

Sat. commencement started at around 8:30. I wanted to get their early to get a good parking spot. Nothing like havingto park far away in the morning and making it worse by leaving late in the day parked so far away in an empty parking lot. Dr. Brown gave a wonder salvation message and Chuck Colson (founder & Chair of Prison Fellowship) gave the address.

for more about his address: http://www.cedarville.edu/newsrelease/2007/CU_Celebrates_111th_Commencement/2132271979

I finished shooting at 1pm and downloaded all the images & started editing and renaming when the server went down. Apparently it was fied in a short time and it wen down again … so I left and went home. I went back at 8pm and finished. I got everything edited and archived for everyone to use as needed.

Packed & ready to go … almost

May 5th, 2007

well, I’m packed and ready to move out. I’m going to bed for a few hours.

I’m really looking forward to this trip. I will be driving forthe class as well as taking pictures for the school to use in publications. I am also going to document the trip visually as well as audio interviews from John Whitmore (CU Geology Professor).

Good night …

May 7th, 2007

Well, as I write this we are somewhere over Colorado at 36000 feet give or take.
I just got done watching 24 (12am - 1am) on my iPod. Great show! We will be flying into Salt Lake City, UT and staying the night. Thirteen CU students will be meeting us at the hotel and starting the adventure tomorrow. The class is Geology of the National Parks.

I’m sitting in the isle seat 31D w/ people coming and going back and forth to the lavatory. John Whitmore is sitting beside me reading a geology book “Great Geological Controversies”.

It’s crazy, I just dawned on me and I realized that he is as passionate about geology as I am about photography and documenting the world around me. I’m excited about having opportunities to talk with him about his passion and what it means to him and his faith in Christ.

I have a variety of questions that I’d like to ask him and hoping that some of them come out during the daily trips around the Grand Canyon. What a way for the students to be exposed to the study of geology instead of learning it in the classroom and being shown slides and reading in a textbook … but rather having the opportunity for the students to actually see and feel the rocks and integrating it with scripture by looking at creation week, flood, and post flood sedimentary rock and seeing how it all fits together.

Monday - (tomorrow) we will be going to Fossil Butte National Monument in Little America, WY

end of the day … I found a note in my shoe from Abby - Miss you, Abby

Monday Day #2

May 8th, 2007

Today was a very full and active day. We headed out from Salt Lake City, UT started with a short drive stopping at Echo Canyon and looking at the rock formations alongside the highway at a rest area.

We took a group picture before leaving.

We continued on to Fossil Butte, WY and spent a lengthy time at Fossil Butte National Monument. Dr. Whitmore explained and showed on a map the area and how the rock on the ridge are post flood lake deposits. We then took a hike up 3/4 mile to a level of 7000ft.

What's wrong with this picture?

After getting on the road, we took a quick stop to see the original J.C. Penney in Kemmerer, WY. founded in the early 1900’s. It was not all that exciting, small Penneys in a small town. After driving another hour we got to our hotel in Little America, WY., we were given our room keys (established house for the night) and ate dinner at the restaurant. Very good food, I went healthy w/ a cobb salad and coke.

We finished the evening out by having a small class session in Dr. Whitmores hotel room. Dr. Whitmore gave several geologica terms and definitions. He explained what we were going to see tomorrow and suggested things that we should look for. He finished with reading the Ps. 104:8, “The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place which You established for them.”

Good night …. in bed at 10pm! Up tomorrow morning at 6am :)

Entry #3 Tuesday

Entry #3

It was a long day …
we started off by going to see Green River rock formations in Green River, WY.

Rumor has it we got stuck on the side of the road. We got pulled out by a truck that passed by.
We drove through Uinta Mountains. stopping several times in the Sheep Creek Geological Loop, very interesting & beautiful.
Lastly we stopped at the Dinosaur National Monument planning to go to the Museum but it was closed so we went on a 1 mile hike and saw dinosaur bones, big ones! As we walked along the path, the class was finding different bones in the rocks. Toward the end of our time there, the group gathered on the mountainside to discuss what we saw.and Dr. Whitmore integrated our observations with biblical truths found in Job 40.
After an hour drive we got to our final stop for the ay at Rangley, CO. at Budget Hotel. We finished the evening with a wonderful dinner at Giovanni’s.

I’m so sad, I can’t load any images on the blog this evening. Though the hotel does have WiFi. For some reason, I can’t upload the images nor can I get to very many sites. I will post images as soon as I can. I plan to blog more tomorrow.

PICTURES!!!!

Take care.

Wednesday Entry #4

May 9th, 2007

Today was a very full day. Though the class discussed observations along the way, we saw some of the most beautiful natural landscapes. We started off our day leaving Rangley, CO after a nice restful sleep.

We traveled through Douglas Pass, CO and spent a better part of three hours at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, CO.

We saw magnificent sights like Tomichi Point, Painted Wall, Devils Lookout and Rock Point. After leaving the national park we traveled through some of the most interesting little towns driving on the Red Mountain Pass more than 70 miles. We stopped at numerous places to take picture of snow covered mountain views and mountain streams as well as an old mine. We would have never gotten off the mountain if we would have stopped at every breath taking view. After a long day, we ended up in Cortez, CO.
