Frequently Asked Questions about Wedding Photography
Q: Do you offer the digital images on disc?
A: High Resolution JPG images are available with any package for $250, a photo release is included.
Q: Do you offer printed proofs?
A: Yes! Currently wedding packages include 4x6 prints in a proof book.
Q: Do you photograph weddings outside of Ohio?
A: Yes, I am available for travel nationwide & worldwide for that matter. However, there are travel fees for weddings outside the Miami Valley (Ohio).
Q: Do you photograph in film or digital?
A: I use Nikon professional digital equipment (DSLR). Roughly four years ago I was kicking and screaming having to go digital. You couldn't have paid me to switch to digital. but now I wonder why I waited so long! I do miss shooting black & white film and spending time in the darkroom but with today’s technology, digital is the way to go. Shooting digital allows me much more freedom, but I truly feel that with the incredible technological advances, digital has surpassed film for most every application. Film definitely still has it's place in the world and on occasion I shoot a roll of black and white film. Digital allows me to do my job much faster and more efficiently. I have fully embraced the digital world.
Q: Do you shoot in JPEG or RAW format?
A: I only shoot in RAW format since it offers a higher quality original file with no quality loss from in-camera file compression.
Q: Do you shoot in Color and Black & White?
A: I shoot everything in color. The benefit of this is that you have a choice of receiving any photo in color, b&w or Sepia if you choose.
Q: What if your camera fails during my wedding?
A: No problem! I have back-ups: I bring an extra camera, lens and flash as well as compact flash cards and batteries!
Q: I want to hire you to photograph my wedding. What do I need to do?
A: Well, I need to make sure my calendar is clear on the day of your wedding. I like to sit down with the bride & groom before. A completed contract would be signed along with a $200 non-refundable deposit.
Q: When is my final payment due? Can I work out a payment plan?
A: If you would like to make payments along the way or pay your remaining balance on the day of your wedding, it’s your call. The remaining balance is due on the day of the wedding.
Q: Do you accept major credit cards?
A: No, not at this time, sorry! I am working on that though.
Q: Do you do photo retouching?
A: Minor retouching is included when needed, extensive retouching is also available upon request.
Q: What happens if you are ill or otherwise unable to make it for my wedding?
A: While I would like to think that this would never happen, not everything is in my control. I can assure you that I have never missed a wedding and it would take something very, very serious for that to happen! If there were a reason that I could not make it to your wedding I would make every attempt to find a suitable replacement photographer who is available for you. In the unlikely event that I could not photograph your wedding and could not find a replacement, you would receive a full refund.
Q: Do you offer videography services?
A: No.
Q: What is your style of photography?
A: My shooting style is photojournalistic (documentary); along with an artistic style, I also shoot traditional portraits for that classic or traditional look.
Q: What are your prices?
A: I offer several competitive packages, a complete wedding package list is in the Info section.
Q: How much time do you spend photographing a wedding?
A: On average, I spend at least 6-8 hours with the bride & groom. I like to begin the day photographing the bride's preparation. During this time I like to shoot spontaneous portraits of the bride with her bridesmaids and her mother. Also before the ceremony, I spend time with the groom and his men for some candid portraits.
Formal portraits and bridal party shots can be done before or after the ceremony. I work around your schedule. Portraits can take anywhere from 1⁄2 hour to 1 1⁄2 hours, depending upon the size of your families and how many configurations you would like. I have a checklist to assist you in getting the pictures you are most interested in. While I don’t just shoot what is on the list, it does help in knowing what you’d like me to photograph.
I photograph the ceremony and the reception. For the ceremony, I am as discreet as possible. I generally do not to use flash during the ceremony, as I don’t like to deter the focus of your special day. During the reception, I shoot candid photographs, such as the grand entrance, first dance, parents' dance, the toast, the cutting of the cake, garter & flower toss, along with detailed shots. If you’re interested in more formal shots of your guests during the reception, I have studio lighting that I can set-up for a small charge.
Q: When do we receive our photographs?
A: It usually takes 2-3 weeks to get the ALL the edited wedding images up on the website for viewing and ordering. You, your friends and family can access and order prints directly from the website. Generally it takes 4-6 for you to get your proof book, which includes up to 350 4x6 proofs. Depending upon ordering the coffee table book or traditional album, after getting the proof book you fill out the appropriate order form.
Q: What about wedding albums?
A: I have several options for your final album. I offer a traditional album that has 12 pages, more can be purchased. I also offer a coffee table book, currently 8x10 in size with up to 120 images. I have examples of both the traditional album & coffee table book.
